Following two acclaimed single releases and Bobby Gillespie’s (Primal Scream) seal of approval, London’s Modern Guilt are pleased to announce the release of their first EP, ‘You’re Welcome’, on Friday 25 June 2021.
Hailed by tastemakers including John Kennedy (Radio X) and This Feeling as one of the ‘Best New Bands’, Modern Guilt are “breaking boundaries with their genre-defying sound” (The Other Side Reviews). Drawing inspiration from Garage Rock, Soul and Blues, Jaz (vocals/guitar), Andreas Podda (lead guitar), Scott Thomson (drums), Glyn Evans (keys/organs) and Dan Williams (bass) “are re-igniting and modernising their era and genre influences in a strong flame of colour” (Listen To Discover).
‘You’re Welcome’ showcases the band’s more obvious roots across five tracks in a refreshingly modern light, with additional nods to the likes of Psychedelia, Motown, Surf and early Hip-Hop. The tracks are anthemic, whilst subjectively dealing with love and mistakes. Lead singer Jaz notes his lyrics on the EP “are a coming to terms with who you are and how you’ve changed. It’s about pinpointing where we stand in our own lives when things start to shift.”
The EP has been crafted in collaboration with producer Mikey Buckley across multiple analogue studios, with artwork created by Edinburgh based Marinello Studio.
lyrics
Cool my
Heartache
Miss my
Mistakes
Sell my
Fortune
I’ll give my
Heart to you
I’ll get along
Or I’ll try to
I’ll get along, or I’ll try to
Oh, don’t treat me like a liar
Oh, well you know that’s what I’m good for
I wanna take your hand and start a riot
I wanna watch your heart hit the floor
Girls walk by with their silver eyes
Bat their lashes and roll their dice
The cold rains fall upon your head
And fill the heart you left by your bed
Sweep you down to the sea
And you carve your name in a lightning tree
I never said I’d wear it well
But I’ll paint my smile and you’ll never tell
Dry my eyes don’t look surprised that i’m alright
Dry my eyes don’t look surprised that i’m alright
Dry my eyes don’t look surprised that i’m alright
Oh, don’t treat me like a liar
Oh, well you know what I’m good for
I wanna take your hand and start a riot
I wanna watch your heart hit the floor
Oh, don’t treat me like a liar
Oh, well you know that’s what I’m good for
